Ailin Perez walked away with a unanimous decision victory over Norma Dumont in their womens bantamweight grudge match at UFC Vegas 121 on Saturday night, but not everyone agreed with the judges.

All three scorecards read 29-28 for Perez, per LowKick MMA. The tight scoring reflected a fight that never found a clear gear.

The first round was a slow opener. Both fighters exchanged cautiously with most of the action taking place on the ground. Neither landed anything memorable on the feet. The second round was Dumont at her best. She found confidence with spinning attacks, secured a brief takedown, controlled the center of the octagon and closed the round strong. Perez had higher output but struggled to land clean.

The third round should have decided it. Perez stood and traded but kept missing the target, while Dumont landed leg kicks and left hooks while maintaining octagon control. In the final seconds, Perez shot for a takedown and got it just before the horn. The question is whether that last-second scramble swung the round.

Perez celebrated with dancing after the decision was announced. The reaction on social media was less enthusiastic. Dumont controlled distance and landed the cleaner shots in the second and third rounds, but the judges gave Perez the nod across all three cards.

The result moves Perez forward in the bantamweight picture. Dumont, who has now dropped decisions in two of her last three, may need a finish to avoid this kind of outcome going forward.

REY'S TAKERey Aguirre

I had Dumont winning rounds two and three. The leg kicks were landing, the left hooks were landing, and she controlled center for most of the fight. Perez was busier, sure, but busier does not mean better when your shots are not connecting.

That last-second takedown in the third may have stolen it. Judges love late takedowns even when they do not lead to anything. It is one of those MMA scoring quirks that drives people crazy, and this is exactly the kind of fight where it shows up.

Perez gets the W and moves on. But if I am her camp, I am not celebrating too hard. That was a close fight that could have gone the other way, and nobody at 135 is going to be scared of that performance.
