Canelo Alvarez is not going anywhere. Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh confirmed on social media that Canelo reached out personally to reaffirm his commitment to the October 31 fight against Christian Mbilli in Riyadh, putting to rest any speculation that the bout might be relocated.

"Canelo reached out and told me he'll still fight in Riyadh this October, no matter what happens. He fears nothing," Alalshikh wrote on X. The Saudi official also posted a more personal message: "Thank you to everyone who checked in and showed support. Hard times reveal true friends."

The confirmation comes amid questions about attendance and logistics for the event. While ticket sales and attendance figures remain unconfirmed, per Boxing News 24, the Riyadh fight was always the plan, and Canelo has privately reassured Alalshikh rather than pushing for an alternate venue.

The Riyadh relationship has been a lucrative one for Canelo. His standard pay-per-view numbers in Las Vegas had begun to settle in recent years, making the Saudi backing an important part of his business model. Fighting in Riyadh keeps that partnership strong.

Mbilli represents a legitimate challenge. The unbeaten French-Cameroonian super middleweight has been on a tear, and this fight gives him the biggest stage of his career. For Canelo, it is another defense of his status as the face of boxing at 168 pounds.

REY'S TAKERey Aguirre

I like this move from Canelo. There was chatter about pulling the fight out of Riyadh and moving it stateside, and instead of chasing a Vegas payday he picked up the phone and told Alalshikh he is locked in. That is loyalty, and in boxing, loyalty is rare.

Mbilli is no layup either. The guy is unbeaten, powerful, and hungry. He is exactly the kind of opponent Canelo needs at this stage. Not a legacy name, not a nostalgia fight, but a young contender who genuinely believes he can win. Those fights bring out the best in Canelo.

October 31 in Riyadh. Put it on the calendar. I think Canelo handles Mbilli on points, but do not be surprised if Mbilli makes it uncomfortable early. Either way, this is a real fight, and that is all you can ask for.
