Cris Cyborg Confirms She Will Fight MMA Again After PFL Farewell
Cris Cyborg says she is not done fighting, confirming plans to return to MMA competition.
Cris Cyborg is not done yet. The legendary fighter confirmed in an interview with MMA Sucka that she intends to continue competing in mixed martial arts, despite her most recent PFL bout being billed as her farewell fight.
"Yes, I will fight MMA again," Cyborg said. "My performance against Ketlen Vieira proved I am still able to compete against the very best."
Cyborg (30-2) last fought at PFL Tampa on August 22, where she picked up a dominant unanimous decision victory over Vieira. She claimed she won four of the five rounds and landed nearly double the strikes her opponent threw over 25 minutes. Cyborg also pointed to her footwork and fight IQ as evidence she still has plenty left in the tank.
The win was notable beyond the scorecards. Vieira missed weight by over seven pounds, and Cyborg still handled her comfortably. At 41 years old, the Brazilian remains one of the most decorated women in combat sports history, having held titles in the UFC, Bellator, Strikeforce, and Invicta FC.
No specific promotion or timeline has been announced for her next fight. But the fact that she is keeping the door open means there is still a chance we see Cyborg compete on a major stage again.
Cyborg at 41 just beat a former UFC title challenger who came in seven pounds heavy, and she made it look easy. That tells you everything you need to know about where she still stands in women's MMA.
The question is where she goes next. PFL does not seem like the play anymore if that was supposed to be a farewell. The UFC is not calling. Maybe RAF, maybe another international promotion. Wherever she lands, she is going to be the biggest name on the card.
I would not bet against Cyborg right now. She has looked better in her 40s than half the division looked in their primes. The woman is a different breed.
