Diego Sanchez Gets 30 Days in Jail After DWI Probation Violation
Diego Sanchez was sentenced to 30 days in jail after violating his probation with a DWI arrest in New Mexico.

Diego Sanchez will spend another 30 days behind bars after a New Mexico judge sentenced the former UFC fighter for violating the terms of his probation.
Judge Stan Whitaker handed down the sentence at a hearing on Wednesday, ordering Sanchez to serve time at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center and complete a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, per MMA Sucka. The 44-year-old has been in custody since his arrest on September 7 in Socorro County, New Mexico.
The ruling could have been far worse. Sanchez faced a potential 6.5-year prison sentence for violating the five-year supervised probation he received earlier this year in connection with a 2025 felony gun case. In that incident, prosecutors said Sanchez fired a gun into the air from a moving Jeep while passing a crash scene in Albuquerque traffic. He pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree felony for discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle, per LowKick MMA.
The probation violation stemmed from his September arrest at a gas station in Socorro, where police charged Sanchez with aggravated driving while intoxicated. One condition of his probation required him to avoid alcohol entirely, per Cageside Press.
Whitaker opted to reinstate the probation rather than impose prison time, but did not mince words. "If you're not going to take advantage of those opportunities, maybe DoC is the call," the judge said, per KOB 4. "If we come back here again on picking up new stuff, I will have no other choice."
Sanchez won the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2005 and fought in the UFC for over 15 years. He is also awaiting hip surgery, which has been postponed until he completes his jail sentence, per MMA Sucka.
This one hurts. Diego Sanchez was the guy who embodied what it meant to leave it all in the cage. That first season of The Ultimate Fighter put MMA on the map, and Sanchez was right there at the center of it. To see him end up in a jail cell for a DWI while on probation for shooting a gun in traffic is a sad trajectory for a guy who gave so much to this sport.
The judge gave him a lifeline here. Thirty days and rehab instead of six and a half years in prison. That's not a slap on the wrist, but it's a second chance he might not get again. I hope somebody in Sanchez's circle steps up and helps this man get the support he needs, because the judge made it crystal clear: next time, he's gone.
