Ryan Garcia Claims Floyd Mayweather Agreed to WBC Title Fight
Garcia says he and Mayweather have agreed to fight for the WBC welterweight title at 147 pounds.

Ryan Garcia is claiming that he and Floyd Mayweather have agreed to fight for the WBC welterweight championship at 147 pounds.
"Trust me at first I thought this was bull," Garcia posted on X. "But it's real Floyd and I agree to a fight. 147 for the WBC welterweight championship of the world. 50-0 vs The current champ."
No date, venue or broadcaster has been announced. Mayweather, who turns 50 next February, has not fought in a sanctioned professional bout since 2017 and is not ranked by the WBC, per Boxing News 24.
The WBC has not publicly confirmed any involvement in the matchup. Garcia holds the WBC welterweight belt and appears eager to attach a legacy name to his next defense, but the logistics of putting a nearly 50-year-old Mayweather in a sanctioned title fight remain unclear at best.
Mayweather has stayed active on the exhibition circuit but has shown no interest in risking his undefeated professional record. His team has not commented publicly on Garcia's claim.
If the fight were to happen, it would generate enormous pay-per-view interest regardless of competitive merit. Garcia at 28 would face a fighter more than two decades his senior, a matchup that would invite scrutiny from commissions and fans alike.
I don't believe this fight happens as a sanctioned WBC title bout. Not for one second. Mayweather is 49, hasn't fought for real since the McGregor payday in 2017, and the WBC would have to twist itself into a pretzel to justify ranking him as a legitimate challenger.
Garcia posting this on X without any official confirmation tells you everything. This is either a negotiation tactic to pressure the WBC, a clout play, or both. Floyd doesn't risk 50-0 for anything. He's made that clear for years.
If it somehow does get sanctioned, the commission that signs off on it should answer for that. But the money would be enormous, and money has a way of making impossible fights happen. I'd still bet the house on this falling apart before a contract gets signed.
