Undefeated welterweight prospect Jacobe Smith will step in on 12 days' notice to face Randy Brown in the UFC Vegas 123 co-main event on October 31 inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, per Heavy.com.

Brown needed a new opponent after Carlos Leal withdrew due to injury. Smith accepted the fight despite competing just 28 days earlier at UFC 332 in Salt Lake City, where he knocked out Bruce Whitehead in the first round.

Smith has been perfect since earning his UFC contract on Dana White's Contender Series in 2024, when he beat Christien Savoie by second-round TKO. He knocked out Preston Parsons in his UFC debut, submitted Niko Price by second-round rear-naked choke, finished Josiah Harrell, and then flattened Whitehead. Every fight has ended before the final bell.

Brown, the Jamaican-American veteran known as "Rude Boy," enters on a two-fight losing streak after dropping bouts to Gabriel Bonfim and Kevin Holland. A loss to Smith could push him further from contention in the loaded welterweight division.

For Smith, this is the biggest test of his young UFC career. Brown is a significant step up in competition, a rangy, experienced fighter who has been in the octagon with ranked welterweights for years. A win would fast-track Smith into the conversation as one of the division's most dangerous young finishers.

Smith's willingness to accept a short-notice fight against a tougher opponent says everything about the kid's confidence. The Cobe era in the welterweight division is picking up speed.

I love this kid. Five UFC fights, five finishes, and now he's taking a short-notice bout against a veteran just four weeks after his last knockout. That's the mentality you see in future champions, not guys padding stats in favorable matchups.

Randy Brown is no joke. He's long, he's tough, and he's been in there with legit welterweights for years. But Smith finishes everyone he touches, and the way he's accepting fights on short notice tells me he knows it too. He's not ducking anyone.

If Cobe puts Brown away on Halloween night, the UFC needs to start talking about him in the same breath as the division's rising contenders. Give him a ranked opponent next. This kid is ready for it.
