Kayla Harrison has been candid about what brought her back to the cage: Amanda Nunes.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani posted on X, the UFC women is bantamweight champion said she probably would not have returned to competition without the chance to face Nunes. When asked directly, Harrison said, "I mean, just to be honest, yeah."

Harrison defends her title against Nunes at UFC 334 on November 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The fight was originally scheduled for January, but Harrison was forced to withdraw after a neck injury that required surgery.

The 19-1 champion won two PFL lightweight championships before joining the UFC in 2024. She submitted Julianna Pena last year to win the bantamweight belt. Making the 135-pound limit is a significant undertaking for Harrison, per Sherdog, and the Nunes matchup is what makes the cut worthwhile.

Nunes, who holds a 23-5 record, is widely regarded as one of the greatest female MMA fighters of all time. Her return to the UFC set up what many consider the biggest women is fight in the promotion is history.

The stakes at MSG could not be higher. Harrison gets the legacy opponent she came back for, and Nunes gets a shot at reclaiming the throne.

This is the most honest thing a champion has said in a while. Harrison is not pretending she loves the grind at 135. She is not selling some narrative about being the best ever. She is saying, straight up, that the only reason she came back is because Amanda Nunes walked through the door.

And that is what makes this fight special. Harrison does not need to fight. She has the belt. She has nothing left to prove against the rest of the division. But Nunes? That is the one name that can define a career. Beat her, and Harrison has an argument as the greatest women is fighter ever. Lose, and Nunes is back on the throne at 40-something.

November 14 at MSG. This is the kind of fight that does not come around often in women is MMA. Two all-time greats, one belt, the biggest stage. If you are not locked in for this one, I do not know what to tell you.
