Loopy Godinez Hospitalized After Controversial UFC Vegas 122 Decision
Loopy Godinez was taken to a Las Vegas hospital for CT scans after her disputed decision win over Ketlen Souza.

Lupita "Loopy" Godinez was transported to a Las Vegas hospital for precautionary CT scans of her head and face after her controversial unanimous decision win over Ketlen Souza at UFC Vegas 122 on Saturday night.
UFC officials confirmed to MMA Mania that Godinez was taken for evaluation following a bloody three-round battle at Meta Apex. The 33-year-old Mexican strawweight had blood leaking from her nose between rounds, absorbing significant damage in a fight most observers believe she lost.
All three cageside judges scored the bout 29-28 for Godinez, but the decision drew immediate backlash. All but one media outlet scoring the fight had Souza winning, per MMA Mania, and fans on social media were quick to call the result a robbery.
Souza, who missed weight by one pound at Friday's weigh-ins, started strong and landed the cleaner, more damaging strikes through the first two rounds. Godinez struggled with her takedowns early but finally got Souza to the mat in the third round, controlling from top position long enough to apparently swing all three scorecards her way.
The win improved Godinez's record to 15-6, a bounce-back after a second-round submission loss to former title challenger Tatiana Suarez. The results of her hospital scans have not been publicly disclosed.
Hospital transports after UFC events are standard procedure when officials have any concern about head or facial injuries sustained during competition.
I watched this fight from a few miles down the road, and I had Souza winning two rounds pretty clearly. Godinez was tough as hell. She ate shots all night, bled all over the canvas, and still found a way to get a takedown in the third that apparently swung it for all three judges. But when nearly every media member at cageside has the other fighter winning, something went sideways on the scorecards.
The fact that Godinez ended up in the hospital for CT scans while holding the W tells you everything about how that fight actually went. Souza already came in a pound heavy, so she was never getting a performance bonus, but she deserved the nod. These kinds of decisions chip away at trust in the judging system every single time. Godinez is a warrior and I respect the durability, but the judges blew this one.
