Vito Mielnicki Jr. wants the biggest fight of his career, and he is not being quiet about it. The rising welterweight is publicly calling for a showdown with former unified light middleweight champion Xander Zayas.

"Nothing but respect for my guy @xander.zayas, but this is the fight that needs to happen!!" Mielnicki wrote on social media. He added that he would be willing to travel, offering two locations: "The big room at MSG or in Puerto Rico."

Mielnicki earned the right to make noise after beating Austin Williams, a fighter who had previously shared the ring with Carlos Adames and Hamzah Sheeraz. The win put Mielnicki in position for a meaningful step up in competition, per Boxing News 24.

Zayas, who is promoted by Top Rank, has been working a more conservative style in recent outings. He picked up wins over Jorge Garcia Perez and Abass Baraou with a movement-and-holding approach. His most notable defeat came against Jaron Ennis, who overwhelmed Zayas when the fight turned into a firefight and stopped him.

Matchmaker Eddie Hearn has floated the idea of interim fights for both before a possible summer meeting. Nothing is signed, and the fight remains in the callout stage for now.

But the matchup makes sense on paper. Two young fighters in their physical primes, both looking to establish themselves as top-tier names in the welterweight and light middleweight divisions. If Mielnicki continues to push publicly, the fight could gain enough traction to get done.

REY'S TAKERey Aguirre

Good on Mielnicki for calling his shot. Too many young fighters pad their records and duck the real tests. This kid beat Austin Williams and immediately asked for the hardest fight available. That is how you build a career.

Zayas is the more proven fighter, but his last couple of outings have been cautious, almost too cautious. If he fights Mielnicki the same way he fought Baraou, he might be in for a rough night. Mielnicki is aggressive and physical, exactly the type of opponent that punishes a fighter for being passive.

Hearn floating interim fights first is classic promoter stalling. If the fight makes sense now, make it now. MSG in the summer would be a great setting for it.
