Sean Strickland Net Worth 2026: The Chimaev Payday, Bonuses and the Pay Fight

Sean Strickland's net worth is an estimated $4M to $7M, with a reported $1M-plus UFC 328 payday, $300K in bonuses and a public pay dispute with the UFC.

Sean Strickland's net worth in 2026 is best estimated at $4 million to $7 million. The UFC middleweight champion has no commission-disclosed purse on record for any fight, but reporting puts his UFC 328 payday for beating Khamzat Chimaev above $1 million, he has banked $300,000 in fight-night bonuses, and he carries Monster Energy and Rainbet sponsorships into a very public pay fight with the promotion.

That pay fight is the reason this page exists right now. In October 2026 Strickland said he will not fight or sign anything until his money is sorted out, a planned title defense against Nassourdine Imavov at UFC 335 fell apart, and Dana White responded that Strickland signed a new contract in May and that the number Strickland claims he made is not true. Neither side has put a figure on the record.

So here is what can actually be verified about the money, what is reported, what is Strickland talking, and where the estimate lands.

Sean Strickland was born February 27, 1991 in Anaheim and grew up in Corona, California. He turned pro in 2008 in King of the Cage, won that promotion's middleweight title with a TKO of Brandon Hunt on April 26, 2012, and defended it multiple times before the UFC called. His debut was a rear-naked choke of Bubba McDaniel at UFC 171 on March 15, 2014.

Money MMA, which tracks fighter pay, estimates that debut at $8,000 to show and $8,000 to win, and his second fight at $10,000 and $10,000. Strickland later tweeted that a single Roobet sponsored post paid him more than his first UFC fight. He lost two years to a December 2018 motorcycle crash in Los Angeles, which knocked him out cold and required knee surgery, and came back in October 2020. A month later he took the Brendan Allen fight on two weeks' notice and said, in his words, he did it because he "thought about a big stack of money." That earned him his first $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.

Disclosed Purses: Why There Are None

Strickland's career has fallen almost perfectly into the pay-secrecy era. Nevada stopped releasing purses around 2020. His title win over Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 on September 10, 2023 was in Sydney, where Australia publishes nothing. The loss to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 297 on January 20, 2024 was in Toronto, same story. Newark (UFC 302, UFC 328), Sydney again (UFC 312) and Houston (February 2026) all keep the numbers private.

What exists instead is a stack of outlet estimates. TheSportsDaily figured $532,000 for the Adesanya fight. BetMGM estimated $592,000 for the first du Plessis fight, the largest on that card. Sportskeeda has published numbers as high as $1.5 million for UFC 293, with no breakdown and no source, so treat that as noise.

The best glimpse at his real contract came from Strickland himself before UFC 302. Asked what the UFC offered for Paulo Costa on seven weeks' notice, he told a fan guessing $500,000 it was "way less," and told another guessing $200,000 to show and $200,000 to win it was "close but less." He won that fight by split decision on June 1, 2024.

The Chimaev Payday and the Dispute With Dana White

Strickland regained the middleweight title by split decision over Khamzat Chimaev (47-48, 48-47, 48-47) at UFC 328 in Newark on May 9, 2026. According to MMA Junkie's Mike Bohn on The Bohnfire podcast, that fight paid Strickland more than $1 million under a six-fight contract he signed a few months before the bout, a deal that already included championship language. Bohn also called a rumored $400,000 to show and $400,000 to win figure "completely false."

The pay dispute boiled over in October 2026. Strickland said money was the reason he was left off UFC 335, that the UFC was "so predatory" on pay, that his heart was not in MMA anymore, and that he might vacate the belt, move to 205 pounds to run out his contract, or go box Jake Paul, who has publicly invited him to MVP once he is a free agent. Imavov offered to put $500,000 of his own money on the line if Strickland beat him in January.

Dana White's answer on October 14 was blunt: Strickland "just signed a new contract in May," and "the number that he claimed he made is not true." Neither man has stated the number. That is the state of play as of this writing.

PPV, Bonuses and the $300,000 in Checks We Can Count

The bonuses are the one part of Strickland's fight income that is fully public. He has five: Performance of the Night for the Allen TKO at UFC Vegas 14 on November 14, 2020 ($50,000), Performance of the Night for stopping Abus Magomedov on July 1, 2023 ($50,000), Performance of the Night for the Adesanya upset at UFC 293 ($50,000), Fight of the Night against du Plessis at UFC 297 ($50,000) and Performance of the Night for the third-round TKO of Anthony Hernandez in Houston on February 21, 2026, which paid $100,000 under the UFC's doubled bonus scale. That is $300,000. He did not earn a bonus at UFC 328.

Pay-per-view points are unconfirmed. Strickland has never claimed them and the UFC has never said. His own description of the sport's economics, given on the Shawn Ryan Show in July 2026, was that the typical "10 to show, 10 to win" fighter nets $7,000 or $8,000 from a loss after manager and taxes, that short-notice bumps run "30, 40, 50 grand," and that he makes "good money" but "only the very top guys are making money."

Sponsors, Cars and the Money He Says He Doesn't Want

Strickland's sponsor list is short on purpose. Monster Energy is his long-running backer, and the company kept him through a 2024 stretch when its own CEO was asked about his comments and a spokesman said some remarks were "in contrast to the values of the company." In August 2026 the online sportsbook Rainbet announced him as a UFC ambassador with a promo video in which he was handed a flamethrower. Terms were not disclosed. At UFC 328 media day he said he had turned down bigger corporate brands with "keep your money," adding that he could retire now if he wanted.

His spending is famously cheap. Sportskeeda's rundown of his garage lists a used Nissan Frontier, a Tesla Model S he said he bought for about $40,000, a Hyundai Accent he settled for after the Alex Pereira loss when he wanted a Hellcat, a Harley-Davidson Low Rider S and a Yamaha Tenere 700. After losing to du Plessis at UFC 312 he posted that his life plan before MMA was to "buy a RV, find a spot to die," and that his plan now is to "own a bunch of houses." He married in October 2025 and celebrated by shooting guns in the desert. We found no verified reporting on a firearms business, apparel line or gym equity, so none of that is counted here.

Where the Net Worth Estimate Lands

Celebrity Net Worth puts Strickland at $5 million. The SportsRush estimated $2 million to $2.5 million in January 2024, before the Costa, du Plessis, Hernandez and Chimaev paydays, and Sportskeeda has a stale $1.5 million. All three are third-party guesses with no access to his contract.

Our math: estimated purses in the mid six figures for the Adesanya and first du Plessis fights, something under $400,000 for Costa by his own hints, two more title-level nights against du Plessis in Sydney and Chimaev in Newark (the latter reported above $1 million), $300,000 in bonuses, and a decade of smaller checks before 2023. Career gross fight income probably sits between $5 million and $7 million. After taxes, management and camp costs, and given a lifestyle built around a used pickup and a Hyundai, $4 million to $7 million is the honest range for his net worth in 2026.

He is 31-7 and holds the belt, for now. Whether the next entry on this ledger is an Imavov defense, a light heavyweight run or a Jake Paul boxing match depends on a contract negotiation nobody outside the room can see.

REY'S TAKERey Aguirre

Strickland is the rare champion whose money fight is more entertaining than most of his title fights. I believe Bohn's reporting that Chimaev paid him seven figures, and I also believe Strickland when he says the UFC treats the bottom of the roster like leftovers. Both can be true. What I do not buy is the Jake Paul exit. He has a six-fight deal, a belt and a promoter who just called his numbers fake in public. Nobody walks away from that cleanly. My read is he sits out the winter, the UFC finds a few hundred thousand more somewhere in the Imavov fight, and he defends in the first half of 2027 while complaining the whole way. That is the Strickland business model and it has worked. The Hyundai stays in the driveway either way.

QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK.

How much did Sean Strickland make for beating Khamzat Chimaev?

There is no commission disclosure because New Jersey keeps purses private. MMA Junkie's Mike Bohn reported on The Bohnfire that Strickland earned more than $1 million at UFC 328 on May 9, 2026 under a six-fight contract signed a few months earlier. Bohn also said a rumored $400,000 to show and $400,000 to win figure was completely false. Strickland did not earn a bonus that night.

Why is Sean Strickland in a pay dispute with the UFC?

In October 2026 Strickland said money was the reason he was left off UFC 335 and that he will not fight or sign anything until it is resolved. He called UFC pay predatory and floated vacating the belt, moving to light heavyweight or boxing Jake Paul. Dana White responded that Strickland signed a new contract in May and that the earnings number he claimed is not true.

Does Sean Strickland get pay-per-view points?

It has never been confirmed. Strickland has not claimed pay-per-view points publicly and the UFC does not discuss contract terms. All of his championship fights took place in Australia, Canada, New Jersey and Nevada, none of which disclose purses, so the only public money from those nights is his bonus history, which totals $300,000 across five awards.

What was Sean Strickland's first UFC purse?

Money MMA estimates his UFC 171 debut on March 15, 2014, a submission of Bubba McDaniel, at $8,000 to show and $8,000 to win, or $16,000 total. There is no commission record confirming it. Strickland later tweeted that one sponsored post for Roobet paid him more than that entire first fight.

Who sponsors Sean Strickland?

Monster Energy has been his main sponsor through both title reigns and stood by him through criticism of his comments in 2024. In August 2026 the online sportsbook Rainbet named him a UFC ambassador. Strickland has said he turned down bigger corporate brands and told them to keep their money at UFC 328 media day. No financial terms for either deal are public.
