Daniel Blancas kept his perfect record intact Saturday night, breaking down Sergio Jimenez with relentless body work before referee Thomas Taylor waved it off in round seven at Pechanga Arena in San Diego.

Blancas improved to 16-0 with 8 knockouts in the scheduled 10-round super middleweight contest, which appeared on the Isaac Cruz vs. Nestor Bravo DAZN undercard. The 39-year-old Jimenez, who entered at 17-2-1 with 15 knockouts, had the power reputation but could not get off against Blancas's suffocating jab and distance control.

The blueprint was clear from the opening bell. Blancas established his jab early, used superior footwork to control range, and began targeting the body by the second round. The hooks to the ribs accumulated steadily as the rounds progressed, draining Jimenez's ability to close distance and mount any sustained offense.

By the middle rounds, Jimenez had become a stationary target. His legs were gone, his output had cratered, and Blancas continued to pour on the body work with the methodical patience of a fighter who knew it was only a matter of time. The stoppage at 1:38 of the seventh was a mercy ruling on a fight that had been effectively over for at least a round.

Blancas showed the kind of disciplined, high-volume approach that draws attention in a super middleweight division that could use fresh contenders. At 16-0 he remains a prospect rather than a contender, but the systematic dismantling of a durable veteran like Jimenez suggests the ceiling may be high.

This is how you build a prospect. Blancas did not chase a highlight against Jimenez. He established the jab, controlled the range, and went to the body by round two, then kept going until a 39-year-old puncher with 15 knockouts had no legs and no output. A stoppage in the seventh that was really over in the sixth. Clean, patient, professional.

I like the style because it travels. Body work and distance control beat power reputations more often than not, and the super middleweight division is full of guys with power reputations and not much else behind them. Sixteen wins with only eight knockouts tells you he is not a one-punch guy, but the way he took Jimenez apart tells you he does not need to be.

He is still a prospect, not a contender, and the next step should be someone with a pulse and a ranking. If he does that to a live body, the division should start paying attention.
