Jack Catterall Calls for Teofimo Lopez Fight on Fury-Joshua Card
Catterall wants his WBA-ordered bout with Teofimo Lopez on the December 11 card in Cardiff.

Jack Catterall is pushing hard to land his WBA-ordered fight with Teofimo Lopez on the Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua card in Cardiff on December 11.
Catterall took to X to make his case, writing that he is ready to go and posting a confident prediction. "I'm raring to go and mark my words I'll beat Teo," Catterall said. When boxing reporter Dan Rafael responded that he was "in dreamland," Catterall fired back that Cardiff was a preference, not a demand. "I couldn't care less where it is," he said. "I just want to fight Teo and take his belt."
The WBA ordered its two welterweight champions to meet on September 22, giving both sides until October 22 to reach terms. If negotiations fail, the WBA championship committee can order a purse bid, subject to the WBA president's approval. The deadline does not automatically trigger a title stripping.
The timing could be complicated for Lopez. Per The Ring, Teofimo has been pursuing a bigger payday fight with Ryan Garcia in the first half of 2027. A matchup with Catterall, a skilled but less marketable opponent, carries risk without the same financial upside.
Still, the WBA order is real, and the clock is ticking. Whether this fight lands on the Cardiff card or gets pushed to a separate date, Catterall is making it clear he is not going away quietly.
I love this energy from Catterall. The guy has been criminally overlooked since getting robbed against Josh Taylor, and he is not waiting around for anyone to hand him an opportunity. Calling out Teofimo Lopez and wanting it on the biggest card of the year takes guts.
The reality is Lopez probably does not want this fight right now. Catterall is a nightmare matchup for a lot of welterweights: southpaw, smart, disciplined, and he does not care about being the A-side. Teofimo wants the Ryan Garcia payday, and fighting Catterall first is all risk, no reward from a business standpoint.
But the WBA order gives Catterall leverage. If Teofimo ignores it, he could lose the belt. The October 22 deadline is coming fast. My gut says this gets pushed past Cardiff, but Catterall is right to force the issue.
