Tyson Fury is already looking past Anthony Joshua. The former heavyweight champion told the Mr. Verzace podcast that his ideal path runs through Cardiff and straight into a trilogy with Oleksandr Usyk at Madison Square Garden.

"I want that rematch with him, that trilogy, because I know deep in my heart that I won those fights," Fury said of the Ukrainian who holds two official victories over him. Fury also claimed Usyk was "given a decision" in one of their bouts.

The plan, as Fury laid it out: beat Joshua in front of 80,000 fans in Cardiff, then head to New York to "get the revenge on the rabbit finally." No dates have been set for either fight, and the Joshua bout would need to happen first for any of it to make sense.

Fury's framing leans heavily on the robbery narrative, a familiar play in boxing promotion. Two judges scored the first fight for Usyk after Fury was badly hurt during the contest. The second fight went the full 12 rounds as well, with Usyk taking the decision.

The financial case for a trilogy is strong. Fury vs. Usyk has proven it can sell, and a revenge storyline writes itself. The alternative opponents, per Boxing News 24, include Daniel Dubois, Fabio Wardley, Filip Hrgovic, and Frank Sanchez, all of whom carry knockout power that could end Fury's career more definitively than another points loss to Usyk.

But none of this matters until Fury handles Joshua. Cardiff is the first test, and it is no formality.

Fury saying he won both Usyk fights is pure delusion, but it is exactly the kind of delusion that sells a trilogy. The man got hurt in the first fight and lost a clear decision in the second. But boxing runs on narratives, not scorecards, and Fury knows how to build one.

The MSG angle is smart. Fury has never fought there, Usyk is a draw, and New York would eat up the spectacle. I just do not think we ever get there. Joshua is a real problem at this stage of Fury's career. If Tyson shows up in Cardiff looking anything like he did in the Usyk rematch, AJ has the power to make the trilogy conversation academic. The safer play would be to take the Joshua money and walk away, but safe has never been Fury's thing.
