GFL Gets Nevada Approval Four Days After Missing Its Own Launch Event
Global Fight League announced NSAC approval for a Las Vegas card days after its October 17 debut never happened.

Global Fight League is back from the dead. Again. The team-based MMA promotion announced on X that it has received approval from the Nevada State Athletic Commission for a Las Vegas card, just four days after its scheduled launch event on October 17 never materialized.
Back in June, GFL announced its inaugural event for Sam's Town Live in Las Vegas, featuring franchise teams from New York, Los Angeles, Miami and London. Weeks later, the promotion quietly scrubbed that announcement from its social media and went silent. October 17 came and went without a card, without an explanation, and without a single punch thrown.
Then on October 21, GFL was back on X celebrating NSAC approval as if nothing happened. No date and no venue have been announced for the approved card.
GFL executive Darren Owen said in late 2024 that the promotion was "funded" and "100-percent ready to launch." Since then, per MMA Mania, GFL has failed to launch, lost funding it claimed to have secured, and faced threats of lawsuits from its own fighters.
The promotion now enters a crowded 2027 landscape that includes the UFC, Ki MMA and a PFL-MVP collaboration expected to debut in the coming months.
I live in Las Vegas. I drove past Sam's Town on October 17. There was no GFL event. There was no crowd. There was nothing. And now four days later they are on social media celebrating a piece of paper from the commission like they just won a title.
GFL has been "about to launch" longer than some fighters' entire careers. At some point you have to actually put on a show. Getting NSAC approval is step one of about fifty steps, and this promotion has not proven it can take step two.
I will believe GFL is real when I see fighters walk into a cage on a card that actually happened. Until then, this is vapor.
