Inoue and Bam Rodriguez Close In on March Superfight in Tokyo
Naoya Inoue and Jesse Rodriguez are nearing a deal for a March showdown in Tokyo.

Naoya Inoue and Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez are closing in on one of boxing's biggest possible fights, with Inoue's agent John Lewis telling The Ring's Mike Coppinger that he is working with Eddie Hearn and Frank Smith to finalize a deal for a March clash in Tokyo.
The fight has been a saga of scheduling disputes. Robert Garcia, Rodriguez's trainer, initially pushed for an April or May 2027 timeline and wanted Bam to take another bantamweight fight before stepping up. That stance softened in mid-October when Garcia told The Ring that Rodriguez could fight in December and then face Inoue in March.
By late October, the patience had run out entirely. Garcia told BoxingScene in no uncertain terms to "send the contract," pressing Inoue's side to commit to the March date and stop the back and forth.
Rodriguez has been campaigning at bantamweight, where he has looked like a generational talent at 118 pounds. Inoue, meanwhile, has his own plans at featherweight, which makes this a narrow window for two of the sport's most dangerous punchers to meet.
The deal is not finalized, but both sides are talking with real urgency. Tokyo as the venue makes sense for Inoue's camp, and the March timeline gives Rodriguez room for a stay-busy fight in December if he wants one.
If this fight gets made, it could be the best pound-for-pound matchup in boxing. Two fighters operating at the peak of their powers, both willing to walk through fire. That combination does not come around often.
This is the fight. Forget the politics, forget the scheduling games. Inoue against Bam Rodriguez is the kind of matchup you build a whole year of boxing around.
I respect Garcia looking out for his fighter, but trying to slow-play the Inoue camp was never going to work. Inoue has featherweight on his mind. That door was going to close whether Garcia liked the timeline or not. Smart of him to pivot and push for March before the opportunity walked away.
Tokyo in March for Inoue vs. Bam is as clean as it gets. Two guys who finish fights, neither one afraid of the other. If both camps can stop overthinking this and put pen to paper, we are looking at the best fight anyone can make in boxing right now. Period.
