Jermall Charlo's comeback hit another wall. The former two-division champion suffered a training injury and has been pulled from the Sebastian Fundora vs. Ermal Hadribeaj undercard on October 17, per Mike Coppinger.

Charlo was set to face Koen Mazoudier in a 10-round bout designed to build ring time as he campaigns at 168 pounds. Jose Resendiz will step in to take his place against Mazoudier, per Boxing News 24.

The nature of the injury has not been disclosed, and no timeline has been given for Charlo's return. At 36, the setback adds to a growing pattern of inactivity that has defined the second half of his career.

Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs) last fought in May 2025, stopping Thomas LaManna in six rounds. Before that, he beat Jose Benavidez Jr. in November 2023 after a 29-month layoff, and before that went the distance with Juan Macias Montiel in June 2021. The gaps between fights have been as notable as the fights themselves.

The Mazoudier bout was supposed to be a low-risk opportunity to shake off rust and build toward meaningful matchups at super middleweight. Instead, Charlo is back on the shelf with no fight date and more questions about whether the version of him that once dominated 160 pounds still exists at this level.

REY'S TAKERey Aguirre

At some point we have to start calling it what it is. Jermall Charlo has fought three times in five years, and now a stay-busy fight against Mazoudier falls through too. The talent was always elite, but talent without activity is just a highlight reel.

I'm not questioning his heart. Injuries are part of the game, and we don't even know what happened yet. But 168 is a loaded division with Canelo, Benavidez, and a bunch of young killers who are fighting every few months. Charlo can't build a campaign at super middleweight if he can't stay healthy long enough to get in the ring.

He's 34-0 and still has name value. But the window is closing fast. If this injury keeps him out past the end of the year, the conversation shifts from "when does Charlo come back" to "did Charlo ever really come back at all."
