Mandel Nallo made a statement in front of his home country fans at UFC Edmonton on Saturday, stopping Nate Landwehr with a second-round TKO at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.

The Canadian lightweight needed less than a round and a half to get the job done. Nallo overwhelmed Landwehr with strikes from the opening bell, carrying his momentum into the second round where the fight was stopped just 47 seconds in, per UFC.com. The official result was TKO via strikes.

It was a sharp bounce-back for Nallo, who entered the bout coming off a rough first-round TKO loss to Jai Herbert back in April. That defeat raised questions about whether Nallo could hang at the UFC level after earning his contract through the Contender Series. Those questions got answered emphatically in Edmonton.

Landwehr came in as a tough, experienced veteran with 18 wins on his record, but the 38-year-old had no answer for Nallo's speed and pressure. It is the second straight stoppage loss for Landwehr, who was finished by Cub Swanson earlier this year. Back-to-back TKO defeats put the veteran in a difficult spot at this stage of his career.

Nallo improves to 15-4 with the win and established himself as a legitimate lightweight prospect worth tracking. The finish kicked off a stacked UFC Edmonton main card headlined by a welterweight showdown between Joaquin Buckley and hometown favorite Mike Malott.

Nallo looked like a completely different fighter than the guy who got clipped by Jai Herbert in April. That loss felt like it could have been a death sentence for his UFC run, especially this early. Instead, he came back with one of the cleanest TKOs on the card and did it in front of a Canadian crowd that was locked in from the jump.

Landwehr is a dog. The guy always comes to fight and has never been accused of taking it easy. So for Nallo to walk through him that quickly says something. The speed and the volume were there from the first bell, and Landwehr never found the rhythm he needs to be dangerous.

I want to see Nallo against a ranked lightweight next. The division is deep, but Canada needs a contender at 155. If he keeps finishing guys like this, the UFC will have to start moving him up the ladder. Get him a name in the top 15 and let us see what happens.
