Diego Pacheco has his next opponent, and it is not the title fight many expected.

Per reports from Darshan Desai, corroborated by Dan Rafael, the unbeaten super middleweight contender will face Darius Fulghum (15-1-1, 13 KOs) atop Matchroom's November 14 "The Fight" card on TNT and DAZN. The bout marks another step sideways for Pacheco (26-0, 19 KOs), who has turned down fights against Hamzah Sheeraz, Christian Mbilli, and Janibek Alimkhanuly in recent months.

Pacheco snapped a three-fight finish drought this past July by stopping Immanuwel Aleem to cap off a shutout performance in Carson. He currently sits at No. 3 in the WBC rankings, but the Fulghum matchup does little to advance his title positioning, a point that has drawn criticism from analysts and fans who want to see the 23-year-old tested against elite opposition.

Fulghum has rebuilt since dropping a tight decision to Bektemir Melikuziev in a WBA eliminator last year. He drew with David Stevens in May before stopping Yanki Urruita by knockout, leaving him in a spot where a signature win over Pacheco could catapult him into the title conversation.

The framing is clear: Pacheco is the favorite, Fulghum is the hungry challenger with knockout power and nothing to lose. Whether Pacheco's talent gap is wide enough to justify the risk-reward calculus of avoiding bigger names remains the central question surrounding his career. At 23, time is on his side, but patience in the super middleweight division is wearing thin.

REY'S TAKERey Aguirre

Pacheco is 26-0, ranked No. 3 by the WBC, 23 years old, and he keeps saying no to the fights that matter. Sheeraz, Mbilli, Janibek. All turned down. Now he gets Darius Fulghum on November 14, and I am supposed to be excited. I am not.

To be fair to Fulghum, he is not a bum. He lost a tight one to Melikuziev in an eliminator, he has 13 knockouts in 15 wins, and he has every reason to swing for the fences. This is the kind of fight a favorite can lose if he is not switched on. But that is the best case for the matchup, and it still does nothing for Pacheco's title position.

At some point talent stops being an excuse for patience. He has the frame, the power and the record. Beat Fulghum, then take one of the names you turned down, or the super middleweight division is going to move on without you.
