Alex Pereira Questions UFC 334 Main Event, Josh Hokit Fires Back
Pereira wants the Harrison vs Nunes title fight to headline UFC 334, and Hokit is not having it.
Alex Pereira has a problem with the UFC 334 main event, and Josh Hokit has a problem with Alex Pereira.
Pereira took to Instagram Stories to share the UFC 334 poster and question why Ciryl Gane vs Josh Hokit is headlining over the women's bantamweight title fight. "Why the Women's Fight is not the Main Event?" Pereira wrote. "Okay, let me help promote this cause no one is paying attention to it."
The card features Gane defending his heavyweight title against the undefeated Hokit in the main event, with Kayla Harrison defending her women's bantamweight belt against Amanda Nunes in the co-main. The event is set for Madison Square Garden on November 14.
Hokit wasted no time responding on X. "My name Dum Dum. You bring me Gum Gum?" he wrote, mocking Pereira's intelligence. He added that Pereira is "not even BMF worthy" and referenced Pereira's upcoming opponent, writing: "Hopefully Sergei doesn't end you like he did your Brazilian punching bag, teammate." That was a shot at Sergei Pavlovich's 39-second destruction of Pereira's teammate Tallison Teixeira.
Pereira is set to face Pavlovich in the UFC 335 co-main event. Hokit, 28, has taken repeated shots at Pereira in recent months as he prepares for the biggest fight of his career against Gane.
I love everything about this. Pereira is out here playing kingmaker, trying to elevate the Harrison vs Nunes fight over the heavyweight title bout, and Hokit is not letting it slide. The Night at the Museum reference is genuinely funny, I will give Hokit that.
But let me be real: Pereira has a point. Harrison vs Nunes is a legacy fight between two of the greatest women's fighters ever. That is a main event anywhere. Gane vs Hokit is a solid fight, but Hokit has not proven he belongs in that conversation yet.
That said, Hokit is smart to lean into the beef. He is 28, undefeated, fighting for the heavyweight title at MSG, and every time Pereira mentions his name, more eyes land on him. Keep poking the bear, kid. Just make sure you handle business against Gane first, because the trash talk only works if you back it up.
