The Shakur Stevenson vs. Devin Haney saga just cleared its biggest hurdle. Stevenson has publicly accepted Haney's proposed 145-pound catchweight, per Boxing News 24, marking the first time both fighters have agreed on the same number.

Stevenson posted on X: "145.0 U GOT A DEAL DEEHOE!!!!" Haney quoted the post and replied: "Crown me #1 P4P after this InshaAllah."

Haney had previously offered 145 pounds with no rehydration clause for a December fight. Stevenson, who normally campaigns at 140, had pushed for 144 and a 10-pound rehydration limit to control how much size Haney could bring into the ring. His latest message drops the lower catchweight demand but does not mention the rehydration cap, which Boxing News 24 reports remains unresolved.

Neither post confirms a signed contract or a fight date. But the public agreement on weight is significant progress for a matchup fans have demanded for years. Dana White has said he spent hours working on the fight, and a Paramount+ broadcast has been discussed.

Haney's pound-for-pound claim adds another layer. If he struggles against Stevenson's elite defense at a weight that favors the smaller man, that line will age badly. And Stevenson, who has never been shy about calling out opponents, now has fresh ammunition if Haney stalls on the contract.

The boxing world wants this fight. Both sides have now said the right things publicly. The question is whether the business side catches up to the social media momentum.

REY'S TAKERey Aguirre

This is the fight boxing needs, and 145 is the right number. Stevenson is the better pure boxer, but Haney's size and length at welterweight have made him look like a different animal. A catchweight levels that playing field.

I'll believe it when the contracts are signed, because we've been down this road before with both of these guys. But the public commitment matters. Neither one can walk it back now without looking like they ducked.

If I'm betting this, I'm leaning Stevenson. His defense is suffocating, he's razor sharp at 140, and making Haney come down to 145 takes away the physical edge. But Haney's power at the higher weights is real, and one clean shot changes everything. December would be the perfect holiday gift for boxing fans who are tired of waiting.
