Fabio Wardley Fires Back at Derek Chisora's Retirement Prediction
Wardley dismissed Chisora's claim that the Daniel Dubois rematch could be his last fight, calling out the veteran's own refusal to retire.

Fabio Wardley is not interested in retirement advice from Derek Chisora. The British heavyweight dismissed Chisora's prediction that the upcoming Daniel Dubois rematch could be his final fight, pointing out the irony of the source.
"This is specially funny coming from Derek who should have retired many a year ago and has still carried on," Wardley told talkSPORT Boxing.
Chisora, 42, has been a fixture in the heavyweight division for over a decade, but his record against elite opposition in recent years tells a familiar story. Per Boxing News 24, his run includes narrow decisions over Kubrat Pulev, Gerald Washington and domestic-level opponents, while his third fight with Tyson Fury saw the referee nearly ask Chisora's corner to stop the bout.
Wardley did not reveal specific tactical changes for the Dubois rematch. He said his camp increased workout tempo rather than adding special safety measures, focusing on injury prevention over fight strategy.
The first Wardley-Dubois fight was a war. Both men landed heavy shots, and the rematch carries the kind of violence-guaranteed billing that British heavyweights do better than anyone. Wardley's power gives him a legitimate path to victory, but Dubois controls distance with a heavier, straighter jab.
For Wardley, the Chisora comments are noise. The man who has refused to walk away from the sport for years is the last person who should be telling anyone else when to hang it up.
Wardley has the perfect response here. Derek Chisora telling someone else to think about retiring is like a guy who eats fast food every day lecturing you about your diet. The man has fought everybody and their cousin for the last five years, and he is still out there taking fights at 42. Glass houses, Del Boy.
The Dubois rematch is a real fight, though. The first one showed Wardley has pop, but it also showed that Dubois has a chin and knows how to use distance. If Wardley comes in reckless trying to prove a point after these comments, Dubois will time him.
Retirement talk before a fight like this is disrespectful, and Wardley was right to call it out. Win this rematch, and nobody is talking about retirement. Lose it, and Chisora will be the last of his problems.
